Four millennia ago, Crete and Santorini - yet located more than 100 kilometers north of Crete - were two poles of the Minoan civilization which then radiated, south of the Aegean Sea. Around 1600 BC, the explosion of the Santorini volcano was the first step in the disappearance of this advanced civilization whose ruins are still clearly visible on sites open to the public and in museums. But we cannot stop at these archaeological considerations. Discovering these two landscape and cultural opposites is an incomparable way to enter the intimacy of two of Greece's most famous islands.
Fifth largest island in the Mediterranean, Crete is truly a mountain in the sea. You will discover breathtaking landscapes at the option of its coastal paths and its deep gorges including those of Samaria which have done a lot for the fame of Crete in the small world of hikers.
What a difference with Santorini! Much smaller, the island was sculpted by the collapse of its caldera during the volcanic eruption. Famous for its white houses with blue shutters that stretch like a scarf over the colored ashes bordering its caldera, it offers an unforgettable spectacle when you approach its coasts.
